An apex domain (also called a root domain) is the main domain without subdomains. For example, for the address www.nic.ua, the apex domain is nic.ua. In other words, it is the base registered form of a domain name, with no extra labels on the left.
In simple terms, an apex domain is the “main” domain address. Subdomains such as www.example.com, blog.example.com, or shop.example.com are built on top of it. In DNS and website configuration, the apex domain is often handled separately because some DNS record types and hosting setups have specific rules or limitations at the apex level.
It is the main domain without subdomains. For example, in www.site.com, the apex domain is site.com. It is also often called the root domain.
In website and hosting contexts, these terms are usually used as synonyms: both refer to the main domain without subdomains (for example, example.com). The exact wording may vary in technical documentation, but in practical usage they usually mean the same thing.
The apex domain is the base domain (example.com), while a subdomain adds a label on the left (such as blog.example.com or www.example.com). Subdomains are used for separate sections and services, while the apex domain is typically the main address of a project.
