In this article we will consider the life cycle of most Ukrainian domains, which consists of five stages. Registration of a domain name is the purchase of the right to manage the name for a certain period, not a product purchase. The domain does not become yours forever; you rent it, and the rental ends if payment is not made.

Initially, any domain name has the status "Available". At this stage, it is available for registration to everyone. A WHOIS check will show that the name does not exist, meaning it can be registered.

After registration, the domain gets the status "Registered". The minimum registration period is 1 year, the maximum is 10 years. WHOIS will show the domain information.

If the domain is not renewed on time, it enters the "AutoRenew Grace Period" — visible via WHOIS. Renewal is still possible at the standard price, but the domain will be inactive. Duration: 28 days after expiration.

The next stage is "Redemption Period", lasting 30 days. Renewal is technically impossible; the domain can only be restored. Restoration fees are set by the zone administrator and are often several times higher than the renewal fee. Contact support to restore the domain.

The final stage is "Pending Delete", lasting 5 days. The domain is removed from the registry. Renewal or restoration is impossible; it becomes available for registration by anyone.

Note: this life cycle does not apply to all domains — .CO.UA, .BIZ.UA, .PP.UA have different rules.
