Free registration for the .РФ domain begins on November 11.

Tomorrow, November 11, open domain registration for the .РФ domain zone begins. Registration will be conducted in accordance with the new .РФ Domain Registration Rules.

These Rules introduce a number of restrictions for the first year of open registration. Specifically, domain registration is permitted only to Russian citizens, legal entities registered in Russia, and foreign legal entities with a separate subdivision in the Russian Federation.

In addition, the right to administer a domain name registered between November 11, 2010 and November 10, 2011 cannot be transferred to another person for one year from the date of registration.

These restrictions are aimed at reducing cybersquatting activity. Market experts consider this measure the most effective.

Furthermore, the new version of the Rules includes a supplementary clause regarding user liability for potential violations of third-party rights related to the selection and registration of a domain name. Before submitting an application, users are urged to ensure that there are no similar or identical trademarks, trade names, or other intellectual property rights, as well as other designations, names, and titles regulated by Russian law, or other intellectual property rights, in existence.
