18% of .РФ domains were not renewed.

The number of domains in the Cyrillic domain .РФ has decreased by 18%. This occurred following the deletion of unclaimed names, which was completed at the end of February.

The first domains whose owners chose not to renew their registrations were deleted back in late 2011. Around 40,000 names were deleted weekly.

The name removal process was completed at the end of February. As a result, the .РФ domain now contains 170,000 fewer names. This is an improvement over previous expert forecasts, which predicted a 250,000 reduction in the number of names in the .РФ domain.

The peak number of names in the .РФ zone was recorded on December 28, 2011, when the domain contained over 954,000 names. Currently, that number stands at 783,000.
