More than 2 million new viruses will be created in 2010

G Data SecurityLabs experts predict that the total number of new viruses emerging by the end of the year will exceed 2 million. In the first half of the year, security researchers detected over 1 million new viruses. This is 50% more than in the same period last year.

This rate of virus creation means that four new viruses were created per minute in the first half of the year. Viruses are most actively created for social networks – these services attract virus creators due to their large number of users.

More than 99% of viruses are written for the Windows operating system. Trojans are the most numerous category of viruses, accounting for 42.6% of all viruses.

In addition, the first half of this year was also characterized by the emergence of new spyware programs - Trojans targeting online banking (banking Trojans) and keyloggers.
