84% of .EU domains are registered by European registrants
According to a report published by EURid, the administrator of .EU, 84% of all .EU domain names are registered by registrants who are residents of the European Union.
66% of domain name owners registered their .EU domains through registrars located in their home country, while 18% used registrars located in other EU countries. This trend has been observed for the second year and is confirmed by EURid research initiated in 2010.
“We believe that people prefer registrars accredited in their country of residence because they need ongoing support in their language,” says Marc Van Wesemael, CEO of EURid.
The EURid study also found that .EU domain owners in Germany, Lithuania, and Poland are more likely to use a local registrar. Meanwhile, UK registrants are more likely to prefer registrars based in non-EU countries.
