According to the administrator of the .XXX domain zone, ICM Registry accepted 80,000 applications during the pre-registration period, earning $13 million ($126 per application). As a reminder, only trademark owners could apply for the domain during the pre-registration period. Due to the large number of applications, the administrator was forced to extend the pre-registration period.

The .XXX domain exceeded all expectations, as ICM Registry representatives had even optimistically predicted 10,000 applications. No other top-level domain (sTLD), including .CO, whose open registration was accompanied by an extensive marketing campaign, had achieved such results.
