American universities register .XXX domains

American universities have begun registering domains in the .XXX domain extension. During the landrush registration period, they register names that match the names of their educational institutions. This is an attempt to protect themselves from possible compromise.

For example, the University of Missouri (Mizzou) registered the domain mizzou.xxx, and the Missouri College of Pharmacy registered the domain stlcop.xxx.

The University of Washington received the domains washu.xxx, washingtonuniversity.xxx and wustl.xxx.

As a reminder, the landrush period for .XXX domain registrations is currently underway. The remaining domains will go on public sale starting December 6th.
