Analysts note active growth in mobile traffic

According to a report from research company Akamai, mobile internet traffic is expected to grow in the near future.

The report notes that global mobile data revenues reached $159 billion in 2011. By early 2013, there will be approximately 7 billion mobile subscribers worldwide. By 2015, mobile data will account for 95% of global mobile traffic.

In the fourth quarter of 2011, subscribers consumed an average of 1 GB of data per month or more. Mobile data usage doubled between the fourth quarter of 2010 and the fourth quarter of 2011.

These trends are changing the structure of the data market. For example, voice calls and text messages are becoming less profitable than data services. Therefore, in the near future, more and more operators will offer affordable mobile internet plans.
