Analysts expect around 4,000 applications for the New gTLD

Last week, ICANN began accepting applications for new top-level domains (TLDs) under the New gTLD Program. Applications will be accepted from January 12 to April 12.

Analysts expect ICANN to receive approximately four thousand applications for such domains, with about ten of these applications coming from Russian companies.

Specifically, the Coordination Center for the National Internet Domain (CC) plans to submit an application for the .ДЕТИ domain. This domain will be designated for websites with children's content.

In addition, the Foundation for Assistance to Internet Technologies and Infrastructure, with expert support from domain name registrar Ru-Center, plans to submit applications for the registration of the .MOSCOW and .МОСКВА domain zones.

It is known that the Skolkovo Foundation, with the support of the Coordination Center, plans to apply for registration of the .SKOLKOVO domain zone.

The cost of one application will be $185 thousand.

Also, applications for registration of their own top-level domain zones can be submitted by, for example, Canon, Hitachi, Motorola, the cities of Paris, London, Berlin, and Tokyo.
