AOL failed to win the www.Patch.com domain.
AOL owns the domain name Patch.com, but it was unsuccessful in suing the www.Patch.com domain through the National Arbitration Forum.
One reason for this situation is the lack of sufficient evidence from AOL's lawyers as to why the company wants to manage such a domain.
The investigation revealed that AOL registered the Patch.com website on February 4, 2009, and the owner of www.Patch.com registered it eight days later, on February 12. At first glance, it is obvious that www.Patch.com is confusingly similar to AOL's registered trademark PATCH.
However, the National Arbitration Forum found that AOL's evidence was insufficient and that the defendant, the owner of the www.Patch.com domain, could not have registered its domain for the purpose of unfairly using someone else's trademark.
