Apple bought the domain iTun.es

The domain name iTun.es will be used for link shortening.

This domain is intended for a social network that Apple is creating as part of the iTunes online store.

When sharing messages from the social network Ping on Twitter, the company now uses the iTun.es domain. If a user selects "Share on Twitter," a link to the song will be posted to Twitter via iTun.es.

Next year, Apple plans to update the social component of iTunes and add the ability to post external links through the anonymizer iTun.es.
