Apple won't pay a hefty fine for patent infringement.

A Texas federal court has found Apple not guilty of patent infringement and spared it from having to pay a $625.5 million fine.

The court ruling stated that Apple did not infringe the patents of the American company Mirror Worlds.

In October 2010, a jury found Apple guilty of similar violations.

Mirror Worlds' patented technologies describe the mechanisms for displaying information on screens. The authors of a lawsuit filed against Apple in 2008 alleged that the company was using these technologies illegally. The technologies are used in Mac computers, iPhones, and iPods. Mirror Worlds' technologies affected the display of Cover Flow files, which is used in Mac OS X, as well as in Spotlight and the Time Machine backup tool.

The court awarded fines of $208.5 million for infringement of each patent, after which Apple appealed the court's decision.
