Austria introduces secure DNSSEC protocol

At an annual meeting of the three Domain Impulse registries – Denic (Germany), nic.at (Austria), and SWITCH (Switzerland), the administrator of the Austrian national domain announced that it plans to introduce the secure DNSSEC protocol at the end of 2011. The first test of the protocol is scheduled for May 19.

Switzerland implemented DNSSEC a year ago, at last year's Domain Impulse meeting, and Germany will launch the protocol on May 31 of this year. However, a survey of members of the German Internet Industry Association (ECO) revealed that several important organizations are opposed to the protocol's implementation.

The ECO Association in Germany, which has nearly 500 members, conducted a survey among representatives of the German domain industry to gather their opinions on the implementation of DNSSEC. The survey revealed that while some companies have no plans to implement DNSSEC, the majority intend to address the issue within the year.

Thus, the conference showed that 20-30% of its participants have already implemented DNSSEC, 10-33% do not plan to address this issue, and 43-62% are preparing to do so within 12 months.
