There are almost a million names registered in the Belgian domain.
According to a report from DNS BE, the number of domain names in the Belgian .BE domain at the end of 2009 was 978 thousand. This is 14% more than the previous year.
In 2009, 232,700 new domains were registered, representing a 4.4% increase. The Belgian domain ranked 11th on the list of European national ccTLDs.
Most domains in the .BE zone are managed by 18 major registrars. The top ten registrars account for 40% of all .BE domain names. The total number of registrars operating in the Belgian market exceeds 500.
Domain names in the country are used more often for website creation (82% of domains) than for email address registration (78% of domains). Many domains are registered to create a personal online portfolio. More than 69% of registrars are Belgian residents—this figure has remained unchanged since last year.
