Belarus is taking control of the BY domain.

The new decree of the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko "On measures to improve the use of the national segment of the global computer network Internet" provides for measures to control Internet resources located in the national domain zone BY.

A dedicated body, the Operational and Analytical Center under the Presidential Administration (OAC), will oversee this process. The OAC's responsibilities will include, among other things, regulating domain name registration activities in the BY national domain.

The OAC will also monitor providers, determine which content will be prohibited, and restrict access to it for Belarusian internet users.

A similar decree was adopted in Kyrgyzstan, where the State Patent Service of the Republic administers the national KG domain zone.
