Brazilian ISPs hit by DNS server attack
Several days ago, Brazilian ISPs experienced a massive attack on their DNS servers, resulting in what's known as DNS cache poisoning.
As a result, many users were attacked by malicious codes when trying to open sites such as Hotmail, Gmail, and Google.
Hackers replaced legitimate IP addresses and domain names with fictitious ones. This meant that when attempting to access the Google.com server, users opened a different IP address, even though the address bar displayed google.com.
Hackers used holes in the Windows operating system to carry out attacks.
Security experts note that the attack targeted many international and local services.
