The 38th ICANN meeting opened in Brussels. During the conference, Russian registrar Ru-Center presented the .РФ domain to international internet users. The company offered the opportunity to register Cyrillic domains to owners of brands targeting the Russian market and global media. Companies can register their domains in the .РФ zone until September 30, the second stage of the priority registration period.

Ru-Center executives reported significant interest in Russian national domains from foreign companies. Previously, the share of foreign domain owners in the .RU zone did not exceed 3-4%. Earlier this year, this figure exceeded 5%, and today it stands at 19%. While the .РФ domain is currently being registered by Russian companies, foreign companies are also showing interest.

The 38th ICANN meeting will discuss the New gTLD program—an expansion of the number of top-level domains and a simplification of their registration process. The forum will consider the fourth version of the procedure for the creation of new domain zones. This version of the rules provides for new methods of protecting owners of trademarks, geographic names, and other intellectual property.

In addition, the conference plans to discuss issues of Internet address space security, specifically the implementation of the DNSSEC protocol.
