The number of IPv6 addresses is greater than the number of stars

The number of internet addresses written using the IPv4 protocol was countable—approximately 4.3 billion. The number of addresses in the new IPv6 protocol is practically incalculable. Experts have attempted to calculate this number, which has grown 79 octillion (a billion billion billion) times compared to IPv4 addressing. The total number of IPv6 addresses is 340 undecillion (340 trillion trillion trillion).

This number is sufficient to address virtually any number of IP addresses. Currently, this number would allow every person in the world to reserve a billion billion IP addresses for themselves.

Experts note that by 2016, every person in the world will have three networked devices. It's expected that not only tablets and smartphones, but also refrigerators, dishwashers, and watches will be connected to the internet.
