The number of registrations in the French domain zone increased by 20%.

The administrator of the French .FR domain reported that the number of new domain names in this domain zone increased by 21% in 2009. Even more rapid growth is expected this year.

AFNIC, the administrator of the .FR domain, emphasizes that the growth rate of new domain names in this domain zone outpaces that of other top-level domains. Previously, the growth of .FR names was constrained by the rather strict registration rules in place. After these rules were lifted, the number of new domains rapidly increased. In 2009 alone, more than 300,000 new domains were registered.
