Crypto Airdrop: What It Is and Where to Find It

Crypto startups use Airdrop as one of the marketing strategies for promoting a newly launched token or project. It works like this: the founders or employees of the project give away their cryptocurrency for free or for a service to users who are already interested in it, or to potential buyers in order to attract them to the product. Often, to apply for participation in a Crypto Airdrop, you need to do a simple action: subscribe to the project's accounts on social networks or other platforms, share publications, etc.

The main task of airdrops is to promote the project, increase its visibility and awareness. The requirements for participation vary slightly, depending on the specifics of a particular project, but the essence always remains the same.

To become a participant in this kind of activity, you only need to have a crypto wallet. But be careful: this area is an easy target for scammers, so if you lose your vigilance, you can lose tokens instead of earning them. Be sure to check the legitimacy of the project you want to participate in. Extra caution will not hurt in cases where you connect your wallet anywhere.

How does Crypto Airdrop work?

The standard Crypto Airdrop scheme is the distribution of a small percentage of available currency to crypto wallets, most often Ethereum and Binance Smart Chain. In some cases, NFTs are distributed instead of currency.

You never have to pay to participate in an airdrop. They may not ask you for anything at all and simply drop tokens into your wallet. There may be requirements to perform simple actions: subscription, distribution. But the decision to participate in the project does not guarantee that you will be selected.

Projects like 1INCH and Uniswap only allowed those who had been involved with the platform for some time before the airdrop announcement to participate in the airdrop, as a way to thank the early participants.

Why do we need airdrops?

Firstly, free distribution of tokens helps to advertise the project. Give money - gain distribution. Simple marketing. Secondly, it affects the positive perception of the product. It is believed that the more owners a project has, the higher the level of trust in it. And it helps with the decentralization of token ownership. Plus, thanks to the airdrop, the first users gather around the project and, having such a connection with the project, they will be interested in its promotion and interaction with it.

But there is also a negative side. Using this method of promotion, you can create a disingenuous picture of the project's growth. Therefore, when choosing an airdrop to participate in, you should pay attention to various factors. For example, if the token is on many different addresses, but is not used anywhere, it means that it is either completely uninteresting in the community, or it is a scam.

What is the difference between an Airdrop and an ICO?

Both concepts are fundamentally related to new crypto projects in one way or another. But the important difference is that Airdrop involves free participation, while ICO is the opposite. It is the collection of funds from investors through the sale of tokens.

How to participate in a Crypto Airdrop?

It is usually not difficult to find such an event, as it is primarily created for marketing and is interested in publicity. You can simply google Crypto Airdrops, or search on sites that are created to publicize upcoming airdrops. An example of such a site is Coin Airdrops.

Be careful not to run into scammers. There are many ways to get rich dishonestly in the crypto world, so it's your job to know the main signs of a scam.Phishingin airdrop can be calculated if you ask for too much personal data to participate. For example, bank account login details, or a crypto wallet key. Also, beware of downloading unknown files and clicking on suspicious links in emails or websites.

Is it worth participating in an airdrop?

On the one hand, it's a way to get free tokens and sounds like a good idea.

On the other hand,  it may happen that a cryptocurrency that was airdropped will rapidly lose value. This happens if people who received tokens immediately want to sell them. Supply exceeds demand and interest in the cryptocurrency goes away.

For the organizers, an airdrop is a way to publicize the project. For users, it is an opportunity to get free tokens. But this method does not always work.
