According to Akamai, the number of websites on the Internet has increased by 14%.

Akamai Technologies released a report on the state of the internet in the first quarter of 2012. According to Akamai, there were 666 million unique IP addresses on the internet. This is 6% more than in the fourth quarter of 2011 and 14% more than in the first quarter of 2011.

The largest countries accounted for 66% of IP addresses, with the largest increase in IP addresses recorded in the BRIC countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China). In these countries, the number of active IP addresses increased by approximately 20%.

Akamai also noted an increase in IPv6 network activity. The company expects more active IPv6 growth in the second quarter.

According to Akamai, 42% of detected cyberattacks worldwide originated in the Asia-Pacific region, with Europe accounting for 35% and North and South America accounting for 21%. Among countries, the largest number of attacks originated from China (16%), followed by the United States (11%), Russia (7%), Turkey (5.7%), Romania (3%), and Germany (1.9%).
