NIC.UA lowers prices on .COM domains
Service Online is offering a special gift to all internet users by reducing the cost of registering .COM domain names.
In honor of25th anniversarySince the domain's birthday, users can register domains in this extension at a discounted price—just $6.99 (approximately 57 hryvnias). This means prices for the internet's most popular domain have been more than halved. The promotion runs through March 31st and is valid only for new domain registrations. Domain names can be registered for a one-year term.
A fire broke out in the HOSTING.UA data center.
On Saturday, March 27, around 9:00 PM, a fire broke out in the Odessa data center of hosting provider HOSTING.UA. The fire suppression system and extinguishing equipment failed. Therefore, instead of waterless extinguishing systems using dry powder or gas, the responding firefighters resorted to using their own extinguishing agents. This resulted in significant damage to the data center's servers. However, company specialists claim that some servers survived.
The .COM domain turns 25 years old.
March 15th marked the 25th anniversary of the .COM domain zone, the most popular domain on the Internet. The first name in this domain zone was registered on March 15th, 1985. The first name registered in this domain zone was SYMBOLICS.COM. In total, six domain names were registered in the domain zone in the first year – in addition to SYMBOLICS.COM, also BBN.COM, THINK.COM, MCC.COM, DEC.COM, NORTHROP.COM
GoDaddy will no longer register domains for the Chinese .CN extension.
GoDaddy, one of the largest domain registrars, is ceasing domain registrations in China. The company is expressing its disagreement with the country's government's new domain registration regulations.
In 2009, cybersquatters were interested in pharmaceutical and financial brands
The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) published a report presenting an analysis of the cybersquatting situation in 2009. According to this report, squatters focused most on brands related to medicines and pharmaceuticals, banking products, information technology, and food products.
Tel domain to feature multilingual names
Company Telnic Limited, the registrar of .tel top-level domains, plans to launch multilingual domains. Names in 16 languages will be available for registration starting June 15, 2010.
China wants to get the .china domain zone
China has submitted an application to ICANN for the delegation of the new .china top-level domain. The country believes that CNNIC, the administrator of the existing .CN domain, will manage the new domain.
Canon has applied to ICANN for its own top-level domain, .canon. If approved, the domain could begin operating and registering names as early as 2011.
There won't be a .xxx domain yet.
ICANN has postponed the introduction of a dedicated .xxx domain extension for pornographic websites. A decision on the need for this domain will be made this fall during the organization's meeting in Brussels.
The ORG domain: 25 years and 8 million names
The ORG domain celebrated its 25th anniversary with a milestone registration – it recently registered its 8 millionth domain name. This domain was created specifically for non-profit organizations. Its purpose remains the same today as it did 25 years ago.

At its MIX10 developer conference, Microsoft unveiled software development kits (SDKs) for the Open Data Protocol (OData). This technology is used to access cross-platform web applications. The OData SDK will enable third-party developers to create more versatile and platform-independent applications for the Internet.
Global statistics of the Ukrainian Internet for February 2010
In February, the number of Ukrainian internet users increased by 2.41% compared to December. The total number of cookies per month reached 16,215,719.
