Dmitry Kokhmanyuk: "Ukrainian users will receive domains in their native language."

Attempts to obtain a Cyrillic domain in Ukraine have been underway for a long time. At the beginning of the year, ICANNsuspendedThe process of delegating the Cyrillic domain .УКР to Ukraine was underway. ICANN then raised questions for the leadership of the State Committee for Information Technologies and Communications, to which the organization has not yet received a response. This was partly due to the absence of the leadership of this government agency. In early July, the process of obtaining the .УКР domain was again postponed due tothe meeting of the coordinating council was postponed, dedicated to negotiations on the allocation of the national Cyrillic domain .УКР to Ukraine.

"Yesterday, ICANN announced the successful completion of its review of the national alphabet domain name for Ukraine. The .УКР domain is now officially approved for use as an alternative domain for the Ukrainian community. To delegate it, it must meet the criteria set forth in Internet standards (such as ICP-1) and undergo the procedure established by IANA. Specifically, it requires a local authority to manage the domain and technical competence to maintain DNS and Whois servers.

I'm glad that Ukraine now has the green light. Let me remind you that Bulgaria was unable to obtain a Cyrillic domain (BG) (despite their application being submitted over a year ago) due to its similarity to the Brazilian domain (BR). I hope that users will have the option to choose their internet address in their native language, and that the registration process will take into account the experience gained when Hostmaster launched IDN domain registration at COM.UA and KIEV.UA.
