AOL's patent revenue tops $1 billion

Patents have become a thing these days. For example, AOL, when presenting its financial results for the second quarter of 2012, stated that the company earned over a billion dollars during that period from patent sales alone.

According to the company, it sold more than 800 patents to Microsoft in early 2012. As a reminder, some of AOL's patents were later sold to Microsoft.bought the social network Facebook

AOL also licensed three hundred more patents to Microsoft, which will remain AOL's property. In total, AOL earned over a billion dollars from patents alone.
