The Coordination Center for the Russian National Internet Domain (RUD) presented the results of the first year of work for the Russian Cyrillic domain.RF.
The first month was the highest in terms of registrations, with over 596,000 domain names registered, and over 207,000 applications submitted on the first day. 45% of all applications were approved in the first month.
Over the course of the year, 625,000 domains, or 68% of the total, were delegated. On the eve of the opening of free registration, market participants expected around 150,000 domain registrations, with the most optimistic forecasts estimating 400,000.
The fewest .РФ domains were registered in September 2011 – 14 thousand domains.
Representatives of the Coordination Center also analyzed data on repeat registrations, which reveals the real reason for registering a domain—for future use or “in reserve.”
The share of first-day domain re-registrations is 61%, and first-month domain re-registrations are 46.5%.
According to research by Reg.ru, 21% of domains are used or planned to be used for business purposes, and another 23% for personal needs.
In response to Reg.ru's questions regarding the advantages of the .РФ address over the .RU one, market participants cited address memorability (24% of respondents), convenience (13%), and a simple preference for Cyrillic (12%).
Currently, the share of active websites in the .РФ domain is lower (25.4% of registered websites) than in .RU (56.7%). .РФ also has a higher percentage of redirects to other domain zones—9.6% versus 4.2% in .RU.
Currently, the average lifespan of a domain in the .RU zone is three years; for the Cyrillic domain .РФ, this figure will be almost the same.
Let us recall that market participants believeintroduction of the .РФ domainone of the main achievements in RuNet in 2011.
Recently, the .РФ domain was introducednew rules for domain name registration.
