The .УКР domain has launched.
Starting today, August 22, 2013, priority registration of .УКР domains for government agencies and senior government officials has opened. You can already access the President's websites:President.Ukr, Cabinet of Ministers -Cabinet of Ministers.ukr or Казмін.укр, and other government domains are also in operation.
This was discussed yesterday during a Government meeting.reportedUkrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov said that by implementing the national domain, Ukraine will significantly expand its online presence.
«Now, to find a government portal, you won't need to know the exact Latin spelling of the address. Simply type "Kabmin.ukr" or "KabinetMinistriv.ukr" in the address bar in Ukrainian, and you're guaranteed to get to where you need to go.“,” Azarov emphasized.
Priority registration of .УКР domains for government agencies will last one month. During this period, domains will be registered free of charge for a period of 10 years.
UPD:If you represent a government agency and would like to register a .УКР domain for free under priority registration, please send a request to dotukr@uanic.net. The Ukrainian Network Information Center (UNIC) will provide you with information on the domain registration application process and advise you on the next steps.
Once the government domains are registered, the next phase of priority registration will begin. Within three months, .УКР domains will be registered for local governments, geographic names, trademark owners, company names, and other intellectual property.
Registration in the national domain will then become open to everyone. To increase your chances of being the first to register your desired domain, submit a pre-registration request for the .УКР domain on the dedicated website:http://preorder.nic.ua
I'd like to add that, of course, there are many contradictory statements about the .УКР domain—both praise for the national idea and doubts that anyone will use the new domain at all. But let's look at the facts: the fact that the country will finally have a top-level domain in its national language, which, moreover, can be registered without restrictions by any resident of Ukraine and the world, is a big step. And the active participation of the state in the implementation of .УКР will only ensure the domain's popularity among the non-IT population.
