The Sex.com domain will be sold for $13 million.

One of the most high-profile transactions in the secondary domain market will soon take place. The domain name Sex.com will be sold for $13 million. The buyer will be Clover Holdings.

The Sex.com domain was put up for auction on Sedo. Twelve companies expressed interest in the domain name, with Cover Holdings offering the highest bid. As a reminder, the domain was listed onauctionin early July. It's worth noting that the domain's previous owner paid between $12 and $14 million for it (the exact amount was not disclosed at the time). Therefore, it's possible that the proceeds from the domain sale are less than the company previously paid.

The reason for the domain's resale is the bankruptcy of its owner, Escom. In February of this year, the domain ownerstriedto sell it, but creditors blocked the possible deal.

Although the press has already reported on the domain sale, the deal still needs to be approved by a U.S. bankruptcy court, whose hearing is scheduled for October 27. It's worth noting that the owner is purchasing not only the Sex.com domain but also two trademarks with the corresponding names.

The owner's official income from the domain is unknown, but analysts estimate its daily audience at 120,000 people. Such an audience would certainly be of interest to advertisers.

It's worth noting that $14 million isn't the highest price on the domain market. Several years ago, the domain Poker.com was purchased for $22 million. The following domains have also sold for over $1 million:

  • Diamonds.com - $7.5 million
  • Toys.com - $5.1 million
  • Fly.com - $1.8 million
  • Flying.com - $1.1 million
  • Poker.org - $1 million
  • Photo.com - $1.25 million
  • Slots.com - $5.5 million
  • Photo.com – $1.25 million
