The .CYM domain will belong to the Cayman Islands.

The Cayman Islands has been awarded the right to administer the .CYM domain extension. Wales had previously applied for this domain extension. The decision to transfer the domain extension was made by the United Nations.

The decision was made on the basis that the Cayman Islands are an independent state and Wales is part of the UK.

Interestingly, the Cayman Islands cover an area of just 364 square miles and have a population of approximately 60,000. Wales covers over 8,000 square miles and has a population of approximately 3 million.

Wales first filed an application to transfer administration of the .CYM domain four years ago, arguing that ".cym" is an abbreviation of "Cymru", the name of Wales in the local language.
