The .de domain leads in number of registrations

The German domain DE has once again surpassed the Chinese domain CN in terms of registrations. This change is due to the fact that the Chinese domain has tightened its domain registration rules since the beginning of the year. Consequently, the total number of registered domains has decreased from over 13 million at the beginning of the year to 9.5 million at the end of February.

Meanwhile, registration activity in the national domain (.DE) is increasing. As of early April, the number of names in this domain zone exceeded 13.5 million.

Currently, the leaders in the absolute number of domain names in the world among national domains are the following domain zones: DE, CN, UK (United Kingdom domain, 8.2 million), NL (Netherlands domain – 3.8 million) and .EU (European Union domain – 3.2 million).

Among all domain zones, the COM zone is the leader – the number of names registered in it exceeds 86 million.
