The .FR domain has surpassed 2 million registrations.
France's national domain, .FR, has surpassed the symbolic milestone of 2 million domain names. FR isn't yet among the top 10 million-name domains, but it's already catching up with Poland's PL, which ranks third in the top 10 (2.1 million names).
There are a number of factors influencing the domain's popularity. For example, the domain is popular with individuals: 40% of .FR domain owners are private individuals. Another reason for the growth is that the domain administrator, AFNIC, has invested heavily in a new registration system, which has simplified life for both registrars and registrants.
The growth in popularity of the French domain was also influenced by the introduction of the EU domain.
The administrator of the French domain does not fear that the introduction of new TLDs will replace existing ones or reduce their popularity.
