A misspelled domain, Facebook.com, has sparked a lengthy legal battle.

The social network Facebook won a lawsuit against the domain facebok.com. This site was visited by 250 million people per year.

The social network filed a lawsuit in arbitration court over the domain, and Facebook won the case under the Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy (UDPR). However, later, when the domain rights transferred to Facebook, the previous owner of the disputed domain also filed a lawsuit, this time against the EuroDNS registrar, claiming ownership of the facebok.com domain.

The fake domain registrar, EuroDNS, placed the domain transfer on hold. Only after ICANN threatened to revoke its accreditation was the domain transferred back to the social network.
