The Sun.com domain is on sale for $1 million.

The Sun.com domain could sell for between $1 and $2 million. That's the price experts have estimated for one of the oldest and most popular domains. Oracle hasn't yet decided how it will use the domain.

As a reminder, Oracle acquired Sun Microsystems, along with the domain, for $7.4 billion. Experts have varying estimates of the domain's value. For example, Jeff Kupietzky, CEO of Oversee.net, believes Sun.com could be worth between $1 million and $2 million.

Paul Nicks, director of post-sales services at registrar GoDaddy, said the name could be useful in many areas and valued it at $800,000 to $900,000.

Sun.com will be retired on June 1, and the remaining relevant content will move to Oracle.com, according to Kemer Thomson, Oracle's senior product development manager.

Oracle representatives haven't yet revealed their plans for the domain, but they have a number of options. One option is "parking" the domain, which means filling the site with advertising. Experts rank Sun.com 2,277th among the most popular names on the internet. Oracle could also keep the domain for future branding or sell it later, expecting its value to rise.
