The .BY domain will have a new administrator.

At the end of last week, ICANN decided to redelegate the .BY domain zone to Reliable Software Inc.

As a reminder, in the spring of 2010, the Operational and Analytical Center under the President of the Republic of Belarus announced a competition to select the technical administrator of the .BY national domain zone. The competition was won by Reliable Software Inc. (UP "Reliable Programs"). Until recently, the technical administrator of the domain was Open Contact LLC, which was dissatisfied with ICANN's decision.

Currently, there are approximately 45,000 domain names in the .BY domain, and five registrar companies provide registration services.

However, the .BY domain is actually managed by the Operational and Analytical Center under the President of the Republic of Belarus (OAC). According to Presidential Decree No. 60, the Operational and Analytical Center under the President of the Republic of Belarus "determines the procedure for registering domain names in the hierarchical namespace of the national segment of the Internet."

It is known that the new technical administrator of the .BY domain plans to introduce changes, such as introducing a Whois service and eliminating the free thirty-day "reservation" for domain names that are not renewed on time.
