In the near future, the .INFO domain extension will allow registration of domain names consisting of one or two characters. Domain administrator Afilias plans to make this decision.

The company has filed an application with ICANN to approve a plan to remove one- and two-character restrictions in this domain zone.

This plan calls for releasing registrations in three stages. In the first, potential registrars must submit their plans for developing a specific one- or two-character domain name. These domains will be used to promote the INFO zone.

Later, during the domain auction, companies and individuals will be able to apply for registration of other domain names consisting of 1-2 characters.

And only after this can free registration begin for everyone.

A similar plan was previously used after the introduction of short domain registration in the .BIZ domain zone. An auction is currently being held for one- and two-character domains. The largest sale at this auction was the e.biz domain, which fetched $66,000.
