The .COM domain extension will rise in price for the first time in 8 years.

For several years, the cost of domain registration and renewal remained stable. That has changed.

VeriSign, the administrator of the .COM domain zone, has announced an increase in the cost of domain names.

From September 1, 2021, a new price for registration and renewal of domains in the .COM zone will come into effect.

ICANN CEO Göran Marby wrote in his blog that the organization itself does not regulate pricing, but reports to the US Department of Commerce and the US Department of Justice.

VeriSign entered into an agreement to increase the price of .COM domains back in 2018, but it only goes into effect in September 2021. In this agreement, VeriSign reserves the right to raise the price of .COM domains by approximately 7-10% over four years.

Thus, it is possible to roughly calculate how much the price of a domain in the zone will increase over four years.

It is obvious that the price increase in 2021 will also affect domain buyers.

We decided to notify our customers in advance so that everyone had enough time to prepare for the price changes.

Sincerely, the NIC.UA team
