The .RU domain zone leads in spam volumes.

According to a report from IBM, the .RU domain zone hosts the most objectionable content. This data is presented in the 2010 Mid-Year Trend and Risk Report. The Russian domain has surpassed domains such as .com, .net, .cn, and .info.

In terms of geographic distribution of spam, the United States leads (9.7%), followed by Brazil (8.4%), India (8.1%), Russia (5.3%), and Vietnam (4.6%). The report notes that over 60% of web addresses registered in China are in the .RU domain zone. Many of these are used to send spam.

The study notes that the typical spam email is sent from a computer located in the United States, India, or Brazil, with a web address in the .RU domain zone, and the corresponding website is hosted in China.

The study's authors also noted that the number of vulnerabilities increased in the first half of 2010. Security researchers registered 4,400 new vulnerabilities, a 36% increase over the previous year.

Web applications remain the largest category in terms of the number of vulnerabilities identified, accounting for 55% of all vulnerabilities.

The number of PDF exploits has also increased, and the activity of phishing attacks has decreased.

IBM experts note that cloud computing services will pose the greatest security threat in the future.
