The .CO domain extension continues to demonstrate rapid growth in popularity among registrars and businesses. Initially positioned as a competitor to the trusty .COM domain extension, the .CO domain extension is actively increasing the number of registered names.

Registration for the .CO domain extension began in July. During this period, over 600,000 domain names were registered. Analysts believe this was the result of a well-designed marketing campaign aimed at positioning this domain as an alternative to .COM.

Of course, 600,000 domains is a drop in the bucket, especially compared to the 90 million domains in the .COM zone, but the number of domains in the .CO zone is growing quite rapidly. By its fifth anniversary, the service's administration is confident that the number of domains in the .CO zone will reach 5 million.

38% of companies registering domains in the .CO zone are US companies, 20% are European companies, and the majority of them are UK companies.
