.COM and .NET domains will become more expensive

Verisign plans to increase the price of .COM and .NET domains. These price increases will begin on January 15, 2012.

Verisign raised the price of the .COM domain from $7.34 to $7.85, and the price of the .NET domain from $4.65 to $5.11.

Rising domain prices.COM and .NET were announced last summer.

Verisign commented on the domain price increase as follows: "VeriSign Inc., a certified Internet service provider, announces an increase in the price of .COM and .NET domains for registrars, effective January 15, 2012. The increase in the price of domains was agreed upon with the ICANN organization and was carried out after approval by its representatives.

Given the rise in denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks, new demands are being placed on ISPs and domain name registrars. Over the past five years, the number of DNS queries to the infrastructure served by Verisign has more than doubled, and the average daily request load has also increased to 57 billion in the first quarter of 2011. This growth is expected to accelerate. However, Verisign has maintained 100% reliability and met all the requirements for the reliability and stability of a modern network infrastructure.
