Less than half of the domains in Estonia have been re-registered.
On the eve of the completion of the re-registration of domain names in the .EE zone, only about 30 thousand names had been re-registered, which constituted less than 40% of the total number of domains in this domain zone.
The re-registration process began at the beginning of July this year.
In addition to re-registration, the new domain zone administrator has introduced a fee of approximately 20 euros for registering new names. This fee will be charged starting in January 2011.
Approximately 12,500 private websites located in the pri.ee domain zone are also subject to mandatory, paid re-registration. Their owners refuse to pay the re-registration fee.
This means that starting today, January 5, 2011, many .EE domain names will be available for registration.
