Facebook is actively acquiring patents.

The social network acquired numerous patents in a short period of time.

Following Yahoo's lawsuit, social network Facebook has been acquiring a large number of patents. In the past two months alone, the company has acquired nearly 1,400 patents—750 from IBM at the end of March and 650 from Microsoft. In doing so, Facebook has decided to significantly strengthen its patent portfolio.

Experts note that Facebook will need these patents to protect itself from similar lawsuits in the future.

Some of the patents Facebook acquired also cover Yahoo's work and products.

In the near future, Facebook may buy patents from Sony, one of the world's first social networks, Friendster, and Hewlett-Packard.
