Facebook wins lawsuit over facebok.com domain
The world's largest social network, Facebook, has won a lawsuit over the domain name facebok.com. The domain was previously owned by a Munich resident. The domain hosted a website that redirected users to another site advertising Apple products.
The same site was also exposed as a result of typosquatting, where users mistyped the address and entered incorrect URLs such as Faceboook.com or Facebooj.com.
The facebok.com domain name became the tenth successfully sued by the social network. These included facebooksafe.com, saferfacebook.com, facebook.me, face-book.com, and several others. In justifying their position in court, Facebook representatives argued that the facebok.com domain was confusingly similar to the registered Facebook trademark, which the company owns.
