Facebook is registering unnecessary domains.
Authors of Domain Name Wirediscovered, that the social network Facebook registers domains that have already expired, but ignores some more useful domain names.
Facebook has registered at least 22 domain names, many of which contain the word "Facebook." Here's a list:
betafacebook.info
facboox.com
facebocke.com
facebof.com
facebokcasino.com
facebookcredets.com
facebookkcredits.com
facebooklinker.com
facebookpeople.info
facebooksight.com
facebooon.com
facebooor.com
faceebot.com
faicbooc.com
faseboox.com
faxcebool.com
faxehook.com
feook.com
photosonfacebook.info
www.faceboil.com
wwwfacebppk.com
www.feibook.com
Some of these registrations are puzzling. For example, Photosonfacebook.info – Facebook doesn't have any other domains with the same name. Even PhotosOnFacebook.com was available at the time of writing.
FacebookPeople.info – the choice of domain extension is surprising again. The .COM domain is taken, but .NET, ORG, and others are still available. The choice of .INFO is similarly puzzling.
Facebokcasino.com – I wonder why the social network needs this domain, considering that it doesn’t have FacebookCasino.com.
.
An analysis of the examples provided shows that these names were previously registered and have now expired. Therefore, it's possible that Facebook wants to buy up all the expired domains.
