Facebook is building its largest data center in Asia.

Facebook plans to build its largest data center in Taiwan. The server station will cover approximately 67 square kilometers—the equivalent of 180 basketball courts. It will be located in the Central Taiwan Science Park.

Google previously planned to build a data center in the country. The country's authorities are interested in hosting such facilities, as they would bring over $3.3 billion into the country's economy.

As a reminder, Facebook recently built a data center in the far north of Sweden, approximately 100 km from the Arctic Circle.

The company attributes the increased construction of data centers to a sharp increase in audiences and the volume of data processed.

Taiwan has the 18th largest Facebook audience in the world, according to SocialBakers.
