Cybersquatting will be criminalized in the Philippines.
The Philippine government has passed a bill that will criminalize cybersquatting.
The minimum sentence for this crime is six years or a fine of $12,000 (500,000 pesos). The country has a fine for hacking of 300,000 pesos. This crime is also considered a felony in the Philippines, with penalties ranging from six to 12 years in prison.
Another IT-related crime that the country is proposing to punish with prison time is cybersex, or more precisely, the creation of pornographic websites.
For now, such a punishment is included in the draft criminal code, but for it to become a reality, it must be approved by the government and parliament.
