NIC.UA registrar's main achievements in 2010
As we wrap up the year, let's recall NIC.UA's key achievements in 2010.
- Improved infrastructure
Registrar NIC.UAimprovedDomain security and access speed in Ukraine and globally. NIC.UA name servers were hosted on three different technical platforms – two of the country's largest internet service providers (ISPs), the Volia and Ukrtelecom data centers, and a server belonging to Rackspace, one of the world's largest cloud hosting companies, located in the United States. Previously, Service Online used three name servers, which were located in the data centers of the Ukrainian companies Datagroup, Ukrtelecom, and Dreamline. The registrar's primary name server is hosted on equipment accessible only to secondary servers. This approach to infrastructure design makes it impossible to attack the company's primary server, as it is now publicly inaccessible. Information from the primary server is duplicated on three secondary name servers, which, in turn, are accessible to users across the entire internet.
- Improved customer interaction
Since February 2010, the services of Ukraine's largest registrar NIC.UA have becomepossiblePay at virtually every store, supermarket, shopping center, and pedestrian crossing using self-service terminals operating in the i-Box, OSMP, and 24nonStop networks, a total of 10,000 terminals across Ukraine.
- IDN domains in com.ua and kiev.ua
The NIC.UA registrar, together with the Vlasnyk patent agency, has launched a toll-free hotline for questions about protecting trademarks in domains. The hotline will help you obtain fullinformationon issues of priority registration of IDN (Cyrillic) domains com.ua/kiev.ua.
On October 19, the registrar NIC.UA registered the first IDN domains at com.ua and kiev.ua under the priority procedure for trademark owners. And on December 21, 2010,free registrationCyrillic domains com.ua/kiev.ua. In the first few hours since the start of IDN domain registration in the .COM.UA/.KIEV.UA zones, more than two thousand new names were taken. More than 40% of themregisteredregistrar NIC.UA.
- Gifts and promotions
On the eve of Valentine's Day, the registrar NIC.UA held a promotion called"We all have something in common."The rules were simple: place a special mini-postcard or simply a link to the promotional website on your website, blog, social media page, or Twitter account. The user whose link generated the most unique clicks to Love.nic.ua won the grand prize – a dinner for two at a restaurant, while the top ten finalists received free domains.
The "Something Connects Us" campaign concluded in an unusual way: its winners, the website Love-is.org.ua, gave up their dinner at a restaurant and offered to use the money allocated for the prize to make a gift to one of Kyiv's orphanages. The NIC.UA team, Love-is.org.ua, and the healthy food store EcoClub.in.ua, which partnered in this good cause,visitedthe Vovk family's family-type orphanage and donated healthy food to them.
During the summer of 2010, NIC.UA in honor of itsthree-year periodNIC.UA offered bonuses to its customers. Anyone who placed a paid order on NIC.UA received a pleasant surprise – a discount on domain registration or even a free domain.
In the second half of December 2010, the registrar NIC.UA conductsjoint actionWe partnered with WebMoney and Google to distribute Google AdWords gift coupons. Every user who pays over 100 hryvnias for NIC.UA services via WebMoney receives a Google AdWords coupon worth 250 or 350 hryvnias.
NIC.UA continues its charitable activities and is holding a joint fundraising campaign with the healthy food store Ecoclub.in.ua to raise money for an orphanage. In December 2010, a portion of the profits from every order for a Cyrillic domain registered on NIC.UA, as well as a portion of the profits from all orders on Ecoclub.in.ua, will be donated toNew Year's gifts for childrenfrom the Vovk family-type orphanage (Kyiv).
The most high-profile promotional event of the year in Uanet wasNew Year's Twitter promotionNIC.UA registrar among Twitter users, with daily prize draws featuring domains and hosting, souvenirs, books, and much more. The final round, which will take place in Kyiv in January, will feature a raffle for the ultimate prize: an Apple iPad, a Dell netbook, and an HTC Wildfire smartphone.
