GoDaddy accused of violating rules and unfair competition

GoDaddy, one of the largest domain registrars, has once again found itself at the center of controversy. The company was accused of violating ICANN rules, specifically, artificially deterring customers who wanted to switch registrars.

Another registrar, Namecheap, also filed charges. Namecheap representatives claim that GoDaddy is artificially delaying the transfer of customer domain names by providing false WHOIS information for domains scheduled for transfer to another registrar.

In this way, the company blocks the possibility of customers switching to competitors.

As a reminder, GoDaddy's mass domain transfer campaign began after the company supported the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) anti-piracy bill.
