Google acquired mobile phone maker Motorola Mobility for $12 billion.

As a result of the acquisition of Motorola Mobility, Google will receive additional impetus for the development of the Android platform.

It is noteworthy that Motorola Mobility already produces smartphones only based on the Google Android operating system.

Commenting on the deal, Google CEO Larry Page said the two companies were a "natural fit."

In essence, by purchasing a mobile phone manufacturer, Google bought itself direct access to the smartphone market and strengthened its position there.

Back in the winter of this year, Google showed interest in an agreement with Nokia, but the latter chose to enter into an alliance with Microsoft.
