Greek statistics
For statistics enthusiasts tracking the development of the domain name market globally and in individual countries, it's not always possible to obtain data on the state of affairs in certain national domain zones. And we're not even talking about particularly exotic ones, but rather about one country in the European Union. Finding data on the Greek ccTLD is a challenging task, as the zone administrator doesn't publish statistics publicly.
However, the Greek Postal and Telecommunications Commission provided statistics on the .GR domain zone for the past several years specifically for info.nic.ua. The table presents precise data for four years:

As we can see from the table, the Greek zone is growing steadily, albeit not at breakneck speed, although there has been a slowdown in annual domain growth over the past four years. The .GR zone is expected to surpass the 350,000 mark in May 2011, and the 400,000 mark will be reached in late 2012 or early 2013. Since July 4, 2005, IDN registrations using the national alphabet, such as θαρια.gr, have been available in .GR.
The most interesting thing is that, unlike European countries with the Cyrillic alphabet, Greece does not intend to raise the issue with ICANN about launching a Greek ccTLD using Greek letters.
