An application for delegation of the .РУС domain zone has been submitted to ICANN.

The company "Russkie Imena" applied for the .РУС top-level domain. The company submitted all documents and paid the membership fee for application review.

The applicants note that the Cyrillic domain RUS is intended to "promote the language, culture, and identity of the global Russian-speaking community."

According to representatives of the Russian Names company, Russian has official status in Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Abkhazia, South Ossetia, Moldova, Norway, Ukraine, and the United States. Russian is also spoken by people living in Georgia, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Israel, Mongolia, Finland, Germany, France, Canada, and Australia. Russian is an official language for international organizations, including the UN, UNESCO, IAEA, WHO, ICAO, CIS, EurAsEC, CSTO, SCO, SDA, OSCE, and BRICS.

The introduction of the .РУС domain was supported by the global Russian-speaking community – the Coordination Center for the national domain .RU, the Foundation for Assistance to Internet Technologies and Infrastructure, and several other organizations from Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Armenia, and Azerbaijan spoke in favor of delegating the domain.
